At our works in Canterbury we utilise original Gardner machinery, tooling and procedures to enable us to completely overhaul any part of any Gardner engine. This allows us to bring every engine we build back to new factory specification. Having these facilities within our own four walls makes us the only organisation in the world capable of delivering a fully overhauled Gardner engine to such exacting standards.
The fuel injection system is the heart of the engine. We use only original Gardner equipment to overhaul all of our fuel pumps, governors and lift pumps. This allows us to produce perfectly balanced, timed and hard wearing pumps to original specifications and outputs. In fact, every pump we test on our dyno facilities produces within 1BHP of rated engine power, every time.
Every engine and fuel pump that we overhaul uses reground wearing parts, including valve cams, injection cams, cam followers and rocker arms. We regrind our components in house on our three grinding machines using original factory masters. When the regrind is complete the component is sent to our inspection department where its quality is checked together with its surface hardness. If it is softer than the original hardness specification the component is rejected.
Gardner engines use Gardner designed, bespoke sprayers. This means that most third party fuel pump overhaul facilities cannot overhaul Gardner sprayers correctly. The valve is not matched to the nozzle, meaning that every sprayer has to be individually set, which is a very time consuming process. We regrind every valve back to specification, and when the overhaul is complete, the sprayer is equal in all respects to a new unit. We offer sprayers on a service exchange basis for all Gardner engine ranges.
At Gardner Marine Diesels we hold a vast quantity of literature and documentation, not least every modification bulletin produced for all engine ranges. This allows us to build engines from as far back as the 1930's, incorporating every improving factory modification. Our technical library, and engineer's knowledge is unrivalled, and we can trace any part or engine back to its origins.
We hold over 10,000 databased and catalogued spare parts on our premises. We are consistently having more parts sourced and manufactured, so our stock levels are increasing yearly. Together with our technical library, there is no better source or larger stock holding in the world.
Every engine we build is tested on our dynamometer. We test our engines up to full power for a period of several hours, not only as a quality control measure but an aid to engine running in procedures. We can test two engines up to 1000BHP, simultaneously, with no time or cooling limits.
Although the engines we deal with are often extremely dirty when they start the overhaul procedure, we strongly believe that the rebuild environment should be the opposite. That is why we only re-build our engines in a clean environment, away from any possible dirt contamination. No tools or jigs that are used in the dismantle and overhaul procedures are used in the rebuild procedures.
We hold over 100 core engines covering all of the engine ranges, from the 1L2, to the LW range, LX range, L3/L3B range and DT/LYT ranges. This allows us to always be confident that we can supply any main core part for any engine, any time.
